May 3, 2012 - Cessna is moving along with the cooperative agreements with China's national aircraft company that it announced several weeks ago. The new strategic plan that Cessna has made with China Aviation Industry General Aircraft (CAIGA) will eventually lead to single-engine turboprop Cessna Caravans being assembled and supported in China for the Chinese market.
Under the plan the Caravans would be built at Cessna plants in Kansas and the major components would then be shipped to China for final assembly. Interior installation, painting, adding options, and production flight testing would take place in China before delivery to a Chinese customer.
Scott Ernest, Cessna president and CEO, said: "We continue to be extremely pleased with the cooperative relationship between AVIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China) and Cessna. China's potential in general aviation is tremendous, and represents an exciting opportunity for Cessna. Since we do expect China to be one of the largest general aviation markets in 10 years' time, we are excited to see that it will be Cessna aircraft that will help meet this demand in the years to come."
