CHONGQING - Chongqing municipality will start building the largest
aviation logistics center in West China in order to better serve the
region's booming economy, the municipal economic and trade commission
said Wednesday.
Located on the eastern side of the Chongqing Jiangbei International
Airport, the comprehensive aviation logistics center is designed to
serve as a multipurpose facility for storage, delivery and processing.
Total investment in the project will be 30 billion yuan ($4.59
billion). It is expected to handle about 4 million tons of cargo
annually.
The new aviation center is being built to serve the region's booming
high value-added industries, and is expected to be operational by 2015.
Currently in the process of upgrading its industrial facilities,
Chongqing has attracted IT giants like HP and Acer, who have set up new
plants in the city.
In the next three to five years, Chongqing will become home to a
major computer manufacturing cluster, with six large OEM enterprises and
about 200 servicing plants taking root in the city. It means
approximately one-third of the world's laptop computers will be
manufactured in Chongqing.
